2018-12-08 - Shepherds
Editor's Note: First, I would like to share a prayer request with you, that is personal to CF Devotionals. One of our staff members, Mike, has a recurring esophageal problem. Earlier this week, it required surgery, from which he continues to recover. Please pray for Mike and his family, as well as the medical team caring and planning for him! Thank you!
John 10:14-15 (NIV)–I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me –just as the Father knows me and I know the Father–and I lay down my life for the sheep.
This time of year, during Advent, we think about the shepherds who were an important part of the Christmas story. Jesus’ birth was shared first to shepherds, and Jesus is Himself the good shepherd. He laid down his life for us. He died for our sins. He set the ultimate standard for taking care of his followers.
In our daily lives, we are often put in the role of shepherd. We may be a supervisor at work, an advocate for crime victims like my wife Jan, a teacher, or a committee leader, or a parent or grandparent.
We should seek to follow Jesus’ example of leadership. He led by example; his life is an example for how we are to live today.
