2019-04-02 - Endgame
I play a word game with Richard and several friends. Being a “word nerd,” when I have a chance to play a word, I enjoy this immensely. Most of the time, I do pretty well, and the games are well-matched. But occasionally, I get to the last move or two of a game, only to realize I haven’t planned well for my endgame. I may have scored highly through most of the game. But if I arrive at the end while still possessing two unusable V’s and a C or X, I may lose. Just like with chess (at which I am NOT talented because it is so spatial), it is important to plan ahead, and not just focus on the move of the moment. I always need to keep an eye on the end of the game, and to plan accordingly.
Aren’t our spiritual lives the same way? As MLK said, we need to “keep our eyes on the prize.” In this case, that prize is our future life in Heaven.
Colossians 3:1-4 (Tree of Life Version)
In three weeks, many Christians will be observing (Orthodox Christians use a different calender, and this year, will celebrate on April 28th.) Easter, also known as Resurrection Day, the day on which Christ rose from the dead, proving that He had overcome death. In thankfulness for this gift of salvation,
for the rest of our lives, our daily prayer and focus should be about Heavenly things, and what we can do to advance God’s Kingdom.
