2020-06-16 - Hunger - The Good Kind
Normally, when we think about hunger, I believe that most of us consider it as something that we need to avoid. But there is one kind of hunger which all Christians should seek in our lives - the hunger for God.
As Christ taught us, and as Matthew recorded (5:6, NRSV) Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
I particularly like how "The Message" renders our Lord’s words:
You‘re blessed when you‘ve worked up a good appetite for God. He‘s food and drink in the best meal you‘ll ever eat.
The hunger for God is one of those paradoxical things; the more that we fill up on God and His word, the more our appetite increases.
If every one of us Christians would fill up on God's word and Spirit, this world would be a more peaceful place - for as the Apostle Paul wrote, and can be found in Galatians:
Gal 5:22 - peace is a fruit of the Spirit, something that should permeate our lives.
I encourage you all to join me in praying for God to increase our appetite for Him, and then to do our part by getting into the Bible every day. May we not just read something and move on; instead, may we ponder it and ask God to help us apply it in our lives.
