2020-08-15 - Don't Give Up
Nehemiah 4:8-9 (NIV) They all plotted together to come and fight against Jerusalem and stir up trouble against it. But we prayed to our God and posted a guard day and night to meet this threat.
Nehemiah returned to Jerusalem from exile after the fall of Israel. The Arabs and Ammonites who had occupied the area were upset. These groups sought to stop Nehemiah from rebuilding the security walls of Jerusalem. The opposition leaders plotted against Nehemiah.
What did Nehemiah do? Did the leader give up in the face of such powerful opposition? First, Nehemiah led the people in prayer. Then, he posted guards while they continued to rebuild the walls.
Nehemiah gives us an example for how we are to handle opposition to our faith today. We are to pray and then act. We are to be bold and persistent in our faith.
