2020-08-31 - The Cucumber
They will have no fear of bad news; their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord. Their hearts are secure, they will have no fear; in the end they will look in triumph on their foes. (Psalm 112:7-8 NIV)
Recently I read about the many uses of a cucumber. Not only is the vegetable healthy for your body and skin, it is superb at sparkling mirrors and faucets. Who knew? I was all excited, the cuke is now at the beginning of my grocery list. Psalm 112 is a lot like the cucumber, they both sound too good to be true.
Psalm 112 states we can have amazing benefits, if we adore God and act generously and fairly. We are wealthy, blessed, and remembered forever. We have influence. (verses 1-6) How can this be accurate, when believers face great losses and hardships?
I think the verses should not be taken as a literal list. If we follow the Lord and love Him, then certain things will happen. There is no magical pill.
We can be happy, rich, and content because our focus is different than for most people. Our faith is in the Lord. The Almighty, strong God is with us. There is something deep and yet practical about knowing the Lord of all will not let us fall.
Lord, May You have influence and honor. Thank You that my good deeds will not be forgotten. For I am blessed, regardless of circumstance. I delight in and praise You!
